About

This is my ‘new normal’

Being fascinated with so many talented artists for pretty much my entire life, I finally had the ability to discover and pursue my own craft.  Unfortunately, the circumstances behind this ‘new normal’ was anything but.

We never know what will happen to us from one day to the next.

I know my life will never be the same as it was.  I worked extreme hours in the business world, met so many diverse people and experienced some out of the norm employment opportunities.

Everything suddenly ended abruptly. I immediately became ill after having a vaccine. My body deteriorated at an alarming rate. I ended up being diagnosed with brain cancer after having a brain biopsy and given two options - two weeks to live or go through three major chemotherapy treatments followed by a stem cell replacement therapy to battle this debilitating disease.

I was in three different hospitals all within six months followed by a few more years to recover. It was quite a battle to learn to walk, talk, deal with cognitive issues and basically try to get my bearings back as best I could.

I believe fabric collage art and basically working with fabric as a whole became and still is my therapy. It truly has been a positive impact in my life.

After a number of years since being diagnosed with brain cancer, I now identify myself as a Textile Artist.

I have been creating some vibrant, funky colored fabric collages, made some unique out of the ordinary quilts, bags and enjoy sewing - basically anything to do with fabric!

My husband Cal, special friends and family played a huge role in my life’s journey and I will forever be grateful for their loving support. Life expectancy is not that great for me.

Like so many other victims of cancer we can only take each day as it comes the best way we can. I am very fortunate and blessed to be capable of doing what I am today with fabric art in many different ways. As you can see I am currently in remission and trying to live my ‘new normal’.

My hope is that my art can put a smile on people’s faces.

There is a bit of mystery in the art I create, especially with the fabric collage process as a whole. Small pieces of fabric all put together in a very unique way to make what I hope is a spectacular creation and using some very vivid colours have become my forte.

Unique in every way that others cannot replicate. Fabric collage is like a jigsaw puzzle. It takes time and mental energy to complete.  The process can be quite taxing and time consuming;  but it is art, unique in every way imaginable. I love the challenge!

My art puts me in a happy place! It would be nice to share my work with others whenever I can.
