Every fabric collage begins with a story...(16"X20" original) 'Jagger Moon'. This fabric collage is made up of hundreds of 3/4" squares. It originally started with an outline of a crescent moon face that ended up with large lips. The name I came up with for this piece started with the moon and the lips of lead singer Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones band. $150
Every fabric collage begins with a story...(31"x40" original") 'KEVIN' the ‘Shoebill Stork’. I learned about the African culture and very vibrant African fabric designs and colours. During my fabric collage quilt finding journey I discovered this mysterious prehistoric looking creature. The Shoebill Stork (Balaeniceps rex) is an African bird who is now on the endangered species list. They have unique features distinctive to dinosaurs. They grow to approximately 5 ft high; have a wingspan about 7 ft, weight can reach about 9-15 lbs and they can fly, too. I found the Shoebill Stork truly fascinating and wanted to express in my own way how spectacular they are in my fabric collage quilt. Their features are too many to describe. The Shoebill Stork is an amazing species and certainly worth researching. $3,000

Every fabric collage begins with a story… ‘Scrappy Pete’ the Caterpillar (30”x32” original) This fabric collage quilt was a lot of fun to create. It started with a caterpillar my husband Cal found in our tree that we didn’t recognize what it was. We researched this strange looking bright green caterpillar and found it was going to turn into a swallowtail butterfly. I wanted to use some of my fabric scraps to make the caterpillar – hence the name ‘Scrappy Pete’. Once that was done, I thought how to embellish this piece. It didn’t have a story that would make it interesting. So, I decided to add some embroidered bugs going after Scrappy Pete and then added the butterflies above him wishing he could turn into a butterfly. The final touch is the caption “if only I had my wings”. Now I have a story… $2,500
Every fabric collage begins with a story… ‘Tucson Tom Turkey’ (Original 45”x45”) This fabric collage quilt was created from a photo I had taken of a wild turkey in the Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. This particular turkey had quite an attitude defending his territory on the ranch parking lot. He was pecking vehicle tires and chasing guests. He was a bit intimidating, but at the same time fun to watch. I think this wild turkey was trying to protect his mate. This collage did have its challenges. If you can believe it, the hardest parts of the bird were collaging the beak and feet. I completed the body portion in about a week. The choice of fabrics for the body seemed to just flow with this piece. Feet and beak were another story. It actually took me months. You just never know… I’m quite happy with the result. $3,000

Every fabric collage begins with a story… ‘Santa Cal’ (31”x43” original) SantaCal has a special meaning to me and my husband Cal. I have always admired the vintage art of Norman Rockwell and wondered how I could incorporate that look in a Christmas theme fabric collage quilt. My idea was to make a Santa Clause fabric collage quilt. Cal was kind enough to be my portrait model. I took a photo that could work for my collage with Cal staring into the skies. We had so much fun making this idea work. For a bit of whimsy to the beard, I inlaid vintage toys to fit the character. The shirt is a sequined red material purchased from a second-hand store of a child’s dance costume that Cal found. Cal found a few more of these costumes in the shop to add to my fabric stash. I didn’t know at the time what I would ever do with any of these costumes. Boy, was I wrong. The Santa shirt looks spectacular. I have since been able to use fabrics from the other costumes and embellishments in other collages. These last few years, Cal has been a huge support to help me regain my mental and physical strength while battling brain cancer. It was only fitting that this fabric collage quilt be called ‘SantaCal’ named after my husband. $3,000

Every fabric collage begins with a story... ‘Keenu’ the Catfish (original 33”x39”) This catfish fabric collage quilt stems from a photo taken of our precious cat Keenu. Keenu has since passed away living into his 18th year of age. He was truly a treasure and forever dear to our hearts. I wanted to honour Keenu in a way that would present how much he meant to me and family showing a lot of joy, colour and whimsy. Keenu was my ‘supervisor’ watching everything I did collaging, sewing, jumping up my back and bracing on my shoulders when washing dishes…just about everything! He was with us during the Fort McMurray wildfire, flood and when I was battling brain cancer. The impact Keenu left on me and my husband Cal holds true to this day. Keenu is pretty special… $3,000

Every fabric collage begins with a story… ‘The Godfather’ (22.5”x22.5” original) This fabric collage quilt was a so much fun to create. I started with just a codfish that had a huge mouth. The fish is made using vibrant coloured African fabric pieces with background fabrics created with designer fabric. When I thought the piece was finished, my husband and I looked at the cod’s huge mouth and thought the collage needed something more. I made and added a cigar to put in his mouth. Exactly what was needed for that final touch. The cod fish is officially named the ‘Godfather’. The cigar gave the fish a distinct identity. When it comes to making collages whether it be fabric, paper, or something else you can really do whatever comes to mind. Ideas are endless so just go with it and see what happens. $1,000
